Sneak Peek at Apple's Grand Central Terminal Store

As a now-New Yorker and an Apple fanboy, I was a little worried about how Apple's new store smack in the middle of Grand Central Terminal was going to look. Placing a garish retail store in the middle of such an historic building would be like plopping big billboards atop the peaks of the Great Smoky Mountains. 

Fortunately, as this sneak peek tour from Fortune's website shows, Friday's grand opening will be grand, with Apple respecting and in many cases incorporating the classy architectural features of the century-old structure.

 

 

 

Man, am I lost!

During my last trip job-hunting in New York, I had the opportunity to ride the Harlem Line of the Metro North Commuter Railway. (BTW, here's a great blog about the line). From where I was staying in Pawling, N.Y., I got to see a ton of stations during my hour and a half (!) train ride into Grand Central Terminal. (I learned that everyone who calls it Grand Central Station is getting it wrong).

But when I got off at this station, I knew I was really lost. First of all, the platform is so small only the first train car's doors open up. Second, the train only stops at this station once a day. And finally, it's the friggin Appalachian Trail!

I guess if I can't afford an apartment in the city I can always pitch my Sierra tent along the AT and hike to the train station every morning for the commute into work.
